Well water acidity

I tested the pH in my well water, for pool use. It was off the scale in acidity. (That explains wjy it fizzes up like crazy when I add baking soda, to clean battery terminals...)

Is there a problem with water like that for household use? Is there an easy way to correct it? I know the water people will have a machine and a payment to fix it...

Generalizing and relying on old memory but potable water should be between 7.0 and 8.6 PH. Will not quarantee the accuracy.

I think it can eat holes in copper plumbing. I vaguely recall testing our water's PH because I'd come across that while researching wells on the web. Ours was fine, so I didn't dig into it further.

Here's my well story. I bought the land with well already there. Tried to get well logs but was unsuccessful. Hooked up electrical and ran well then took sample to lab. Water was fine. It tasted great. But lab does not test for acidity. When house was built I noticed blue stains appearing in tubs. So I tested and found ph around 5.8-6. This was below what Sears recommended on their neutralizer. I bought one anyway and it helped but was a pain to keep up with. To make a long story short, I finally got logs and found I had a "livestock" well drilled to 100 feet and cased to 50. This was after 1000's of dollars spent in piping to house and treating water. I had a new well dug to 300 feet. Expensive, but not as bad as replacing the copper plumbing in my house if it wore out, or sprang a leak. I learned my lesson about buying property with an existing water well.
