I noticed that my jet pump on my old 2" 118' well was running continuously and when I shut it off, I could hear the well sucking wind. Before it lost prime I turned the jet pump back on, opened up a garden hose spigot to try to keep the pump from overheating and called my well driller thinking that my foot valve had failed.

Sadly, $500 later I learned that my outer casing had rusted through likely at the water table and couldn't hold pressure which was why my jet pump was running continuously. I was also left without water since we couldn't get the well to prime I was going to be without water for four days before a different crew from my well driller could come out.

I made a video of the experience of switching out a different 125' deep well that was one of the first 4" PVC wells in my county over from a hand pump to a submersible pump and connecting it to my home.

Wells can certainly suck at times.

I had the same thing happen at my wife's shop. Cost 500 to close out the well. Had another problem at home, the pump was leaking at the pitless adapter. Changed over to a Grundfoss pump, new adapter.

As a water well professional I enjoyed your video. You're going to love the pressure and flow of the sub vs the old jet. Quiet too.

At first I was puzzled on why they used a horizontal drilling machine until you mentioned that the trench was 7' deep. I guess using the excavator wouldn't be practical. It doesn't freeze here so we don't deal with those things.

Any ideas on how to get not orange water that tested 15 iron and 22 hardness? My new water softener is at 70. We're still a tinge orange.

At my place, we use a spin down particulate filter, an air eductor system and iron reducing salt in the softener's brine tank. If it's just a 'tinge' then an eductor should be enough, if it was considerable, I would recommend an iron handler (remover). We have used these brands and all seem to work well...see what I did there?

The Ryan operating the excavator had some very good skills -- I like watching someone who's good on a machine like that.

He does have good skills which is why I kept that bit at real time because I figure that if I learned something from watching him, others would as well.
