I asked the loan officer at Farm Credit if they had min req's for GPM on wells in order to get a construction loan and he said no. All of the homeowners in the area are on springs that produce the same or less GPM than our well, and they all have the holding tank option. I think I'll probably go that route since I do want to irrigate a yard and small garden.
As for the Gulf Coast, well, what can you say. I am living on a well currently in NE FL, and we're down 450' with no submersible pump, just the one into the house. Our well provides 60 GPM, and the water doesn't need softening either. I called the company that drilled our well here in JAX and he said that a well producing less than 20 GPM in our area would be considered a poor well, but for that area of TN, 7 GPM would be considered average. He has had experience with wells in TN and NC so I have to assume he knows his business. All in all, I'm just happy that it's 7GPM vice 3GPM, even with the holding tank option.
