I went in to the local Kubota dealer to check out the B7510. The dealer asked what I wanted to do with it, and recommended the L2800 HST. I checked out the L2800, and now I'm hooked. The L2800 seems like SO much more tractor than the B7510, and was only about $2100 more. Why such a small delta? I don't get it. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Anyway, the price he quoted was $15226 for L2800HST with 463 FEL.

Now the question is: Do I go up to the L3400 HST for another $1100??

Maybe. How much land do you have to take care of? What do you plan to use your tractor for? I have a L2800DT with FEL and 5' BB for my 13 acres, and it's plenty of machine for shredding pasture and moving dirt. Shift your own gears, and the price drops. You might decide you want the L3400 w/o HST and buy a few implements to go with it!!

It's 11 acres, lots of trees, flat. I need to clear brush, knock down some small trees, build and maintain a driveway, make trails, grade, etc. Eventually will mow, and do general maintenance.

I do plan on getting a 5' boxblade and 5' rotary cutter with it. I have been struggling with the HST vs gear decision. I just figure working with a loader, and maneuvering around lots of trees would be a lot easier with HST.

The B7800 worked for me. HST, between the trees. Price and implements. I have hills too. I run a 5' BrushHog with it. Ample power. The 7610 series was not available for us, then. So we were looking at the BX/2710/2910 and decided on the 7800 with implements.

I have do some pretty extensive trail and clearing work with it. It is almost relegated to lawn mower duty now. And of course lots of FEL work, for the horse crap.

Welcome to TBN jwk!
Same thing happened to me and quite a few other TBNers. And Kubota likes to make it easy to jump to the next model up by keeping the spread fairly small.
Sounds like the 7800 would be the right size for you.

Good luck with your shopping,

I was looking to trade in my B7500 and fell in love with the 2800 or 3400 (can't remember which one I drove around). Sure is a LOT of tractor compared to what I had. That's how I ended up with an L3130... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I went and checked out the specs of the B7800 vs L2800, and they seem fairly close, and I think the price is fairly close as well. Whats the difference between these 2 models? Why would someone choose one over the other?

In your shoes, I'd probably go L3400 gear...but that's just me. I like gear and I could buy another implement with the HST delta. I like bigger tractors as well. The bigger tractor will be heavier, more stable and do the work more quickly with less strain. However, the only thing the L3400 has that's bigger than the L2800 is the engine; the two tractors weigh almost the same. So it's your call whether you want the extra ponies. With HST the exta ponies would be nice to have. An L3400HST would be a nice package and probably more flexible than gear.

If you do decide to go gear, I'd stay away from the L2800. It's got an old fashioned transmission driven PTO that's controlled by the tractor's single stage clutch. Push the clutch in and both forward motion and PTO stop. Not really a bad system, just not nearly as nice as Live/continuous with two stage clutch (like the L3400 ) or Live/Independent (like the L4400). The L2800 HST has Live/continuous PTO so you'll be alright there.

You can't really go wrong here, just don't buy something so small that you have to work its heart out to get things done. Up to a point, more is more with tractors; especially with the work you're planning.

too many choices get you in trouble. If you can afford it buy a bigger more powerful tractor you won't be sorry.

as mentioned gears will save some money, but for me the boss after driving a few said HST! now I think she has more seat time than I do. So I guess sticking with gears would be better after all.

I did almost the exact same thing. I was looking for a 2910 which they discontinued and now they have the 3030. Of course my local dealer did not have one so I started driving. Went to many dealers and found the L2800 HST. What a machine. I like the little bit larger frame size. Little bigger but not to big. Very easy to operate. Not all the fancy stuff that the 3130 has. Just a plain tractor.I passed on this model before because of the stick only. So then I had to decide between the 2800 and the 3400. I decided on the 3400 for the extra $1100.00. You just never know what you might be doing in the future and the extra power may be needed. I don't plan on buying another tractor for many years.Unfortunately it has been on order for almost a month and still not here. I can't wait. I will write a review after I recieve it. Good luck.
