Not a chance. It's been tried but state law requires it to be on the license plates which must be visibly clean. RSA 261:75 states:

<font color="red">The director may make special rules relative to the number of plates, the location of said plate or plates on the vehicle, and the material and design thereof, provided, however, that number plates for passenger vehicles shall have the state motto "Live Free or Die" written thereon. The plate shall be kept clean. </font>

As a cost cutting measure, many states (including Pennsylvania and West Virginia) have gone to only one plate per vehicle.

Ohio still uses two license plates. I know many people in the more "rural" parts of Ohio who buy one set of license plates, and put one on one of their vehicles and the other plate on the back of their other vehicle. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

And that's the reason 40+ years ago that we wrote lots of tickets to drivers who had no front license plate on their vehicles. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif And I even knew a police officer in one of our suburbs who was fired for having two vehicles and only one set of plates; one on each vehicle. Of course I figured any police officer who would do that was too dumb to be an officer anyway. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Mississippi has over 100 different kind of plates. Everything from Conserving Agriculture to your favorite NASCAR driver, Breast Cancer Awareness to Children's Hospital, Choose Life to Purple Heart Recipient, Defeat Diabetes to Realtor, and on and on and on. Makes it really rough on police officers and dispatchers because each series has a specific code that has to be entered to get owner info. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
