Wet areas in yard

Future plans for new tractor to be:

I have a couple of wet areas in my lawn. Wanted to see if anyone had any ideas on getting these areas to dry up. The wife and I just moved in November and haven't cut the grass yet, however I know these areas will be troublesome when the grass does grow (getting the tractor stuck, ruts). I have a pond right behind the house and there seems to be a natural spring that runs down one hillside into the pond and creates an area that's about 10 X 15 yards that is kind of a soupy mess. Grass (weeds) still grow there. Couple of other areas that are soupy on the lower side of the pond also.

Was thinking of waiting until summer when it's really dry, digging a ditch or two, laying some perforated pipe, backfilling with some gravel and then covering with topsoil.

Any thoughts otherwise?

Any pics? Can you expand the size of the pond to incorporate this wet area, or is it too close to the house?

What if you fill the wet area in and have the finish grade slope towards the pond to drain?

I would talk to your local Wetlands Conservation Committee/Commission and/or whoever regulates that kind of thing prior to initiating any project with "wet land". A TBN member named "Timber" had a lot of difficulties with his local inspector types due to property work the previous homeowner did. Jay

How close are the wet areas to the pond? Are they below the dam? or of to the side of it?

Wet areas mean allot of differnt things, with the pond close by, I'm wondering if you have a leak in the pond or the dam.

Pictures would really help.

it's like asking DSS to come see if your kids are being raised right!!!! how do youthink they justify their budget? danger will robinson

One of the wet areas is above the pond, on the hillside that slopes down to the pond. I think this is more of the natural spring or run off into the pond.
Two other wet spots are smaller. One is by where there is a low spot on the dam side of the pond. I do believe that when the pond level gets up, some water does run through here. The other smaller wet spot is also below the dam side of the pond also, but farther away. It seems to be more of a lwo spot where ground water collects. Pictures will make all of this make more sense.
