Wet brakes vs. dry brakes

What are the pros and cons of the two? I've read posts on here about the wet brakes coming apart and clogging up the whole system. They mention that it is an expensive problem to deal with. Is this a rare problem and can it be prevented?

Wt brakes are supposed to be better since they are enclosed in an oil bath. They would then be cooled to upon heavy braking. I guess they last longer. But I have had both on my tractors and I think they work just about the same. I'm never slamming on the brakes. On my old JD 790 with drys it stopped well, JD 4300 with wet did not stop as good I don't know why I thought this machine had crappy brakes for holding on a hill. You really had to step on the pedal to get it to stop, the JD 990 stops great from the little I use the brakes. Actually my dad had to slam on the brakes on our JD 970 and it stopped fast and you could hear the tires squeel since we were on pavement at the car wash. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
