Does anyone have a 5720 or 5740 with 500 plus hours? How is it holding up?

360 hours on 5740 C, mostly hard running brush hogging, but last year didn't get into what I consider extreme hogging too much. Seem to lose more pins than the JD 4600 I replaced, kind of pissy little stuff, but have to get off of the seat more often to check the three point mounts in rough stuff. No problem with the powertrain since warranty replacement of hyd. pump. Not wild about engine cooling system on C model, and am disgusted with fuel consumption. Still waiting to hear from other 5740 C owners about fuel usage, and under what enviromental or load conditions. Sidey

It has been last year since I have used mine a lot, so my fuel consumption memory may be a little fuzzy. It seemed that I could go about 8 hours on a full tank with the revs at 540 on the PTO. I will pay better attention when I start mowing and spraying this year.

Thanks for the reply. I have 26 hours on mine. So far light easy work hauling round hay to the cows. I am gearing up for hay season, I will see how it hold up in the Texas sun!

I have some kind of noise under the cab, sounds like something is loose. I have not found anything. Any thoughts?

If the noise is coming from under your left foot, you might check to see if the pin that connects the creeper gears/standard gears to whatever it engages is loose, I lost my original, and the replacement makes a rattling noise. Sidey

Since we were in a very severe drought situation the last two years, the same two years that I've had my 5740C, I can't really tell you about fuel consumption while mowing pastures. Basically, there haven't been much in the pastures that needed mowing. What area did need mowing wasn't bad on fuel consumption though, but again was only 20 acres or so. No worse than my Kubota was. I've mainly used mine to load, unload, and stack round bales, bring round bales down to the cattle, and short time usage type things like that so far. Not a real fair way to measure fuel usage.
