What advice do you have?

Unfortunately, I have very little experience with engines or diagnosing mechanical problems. But i do have experience with all sorts of tools and building things. I am good at problem solving. I think it would benefit me to WATCH someone. And read and read on here.

One thing I have noticed compared to other hunting forums I am on. The people here are much more open to helping and answering questions, and I do appreciate that. Thanks everyone.

I had worked on cars a bit but I lacked the large wrenches and sockets it takes to do almost anything on a tractor. I got mine at one of the Big Box stores because I am old and will never wear them out and they have a "lifetime" warranty. I do not need them often but they are a necessity. First time I had to adjust my blower shoes I had to drive 3 miles to borrow stuff from a buddy....and I hate borrowing tools.

I bought a new tractor for a number of reasons but one was the warranty. I am not going to handle a major repair. The small stuff is not too difficult and lots of guys here to help.

Shooterdon . . . diesel engines are not complicated . . .

All complicated things are made up of a lot of simple things. Just look at them one at a time.

Interesting.... maybe since the first one didn't run, and he has no mechanical knowledge. This is the FIRST operational tractor......

Technically that is correct. I only owned the tractor for 5 days and never even cranked it. I got it for dirt cheap and then found out it had a cracked engine block, and immediately sold it to someone for parts and recooped my money. I literally bought the Ford and had it towed to a mechanic 30 min later, and never laid eyes on it again, lol. I have been talking myself out of buying another tractor since then, but i felt good about this tractor and I felt the guy i bought it from was being truthful with me....so i bought it!

Even lower priced is expensive but it is one of those things after I bought them I asked myself why I put it off so long.

If a lot of you are like me, you have recollections of when you were younger that as you get older you reflect on. I realized as I got older my dad wasn’t the handiest guy around. It wasn’t that he wasn’t smart enough. He didn’t have the tools or experience. There is not some inborn knowledge on how to fix things. It comes from doing it.

I hear you. Growing up and for first decade or two on my own I never had channel lock pliers. Don’t know why, just regular pliers, fencing pliers, vice-grips, pipe wrenches, etc. all got the job done. Now, they get used every other day & I couldn’t imagine life without them.

Same with tire bead sealing (gunk). Went 50 years without ever needing it. Had to buy a huge quart (?) can of it a couple years ago when I only needed a few dabs, now I’m almost out. Same with bearing grease....

I have ran across a couple of farmers who own and operate a significant amount of farm equipment and who have a very limited mechanical aptitude. Granted, it is not an ideal combination, but they seem to manage by begrudgingly learning what they need to learn and finding human resources to help them when they need it.
