I like to use the brake to stop the tractor, it helps keep me in the seat without my face hitting the steering wheel. By past experiences in a panic or high stress situation with hydrostatic pedals or levers, you always seem to end up in big trouble. To me a collar shift is like operating a manual shift car. Push in the clutch and hit the brake to stop.
I love my 990. Some of the reasons for choosing it were.
1. 40Hp 4cyl ---normally aspirated engine. No turbos to worry about.
2. Its a wide stance machine. Tires spun out make it as stable as it gets.
3. The weight of the machine is right between the 3X and 4X machines.
4. Again..the transmission is a simple as it gets. You can get quite fast at changing directions while still taking the time to be safe.
5. Value...it has a nice little niche.
7. THe 990 still looks like a tractor....I am not sold on the looks of the sloped hoods..not that it should really matter in your decision.
