5 year old killed, falling out of bucket!

13 year old driving tractor! Apparently pulling a packer. Deceased kid's siblings also in the bucket!

Sounds like something my Dad would have orchestrated! Fortunately, I was only ever ALMOST run over when he insisted a totally inexperienced driver operate the tractor.

It is sad. As for what they are thinking? They are not thinking.

I am surprised that no charges are being laid! I mean, that's reasonable to me. You can't punish the parents any more. But these days, parents get charged for slapping their kid in the Walmart!

We watched a family movie a few years back, about a potato farmer in South Africa, a true story. One scene has Our Hero driivng an old tractor, the kind with humongous sheet metal fenders over the back wheels, and he's got several kids on the tractor, including his best friend's son up on the fender. Hits a bump, boy falls forward, and gets run over. It wasn't pretty. The movie didn't get deliberately gory, but you did see the blood.

It made ALL my kids a lot more safety conscious.

Sad. For the few that actually do think about consequences, they do not believe anything bad will happen to them. I used to work with a person in the fire service that has run tractor accidents, and refuses to install a rops on an older John Deere. A few weeks ago this same person posted a Facebook picture of their 2 elementary school children riding on the fenders. It infuriates me.

Who is in the drivers seat is often the biggest factor. Exact same thing as in a car. Everything is just fine until something requiring experience and a cool head happens.

Thinking of this tragedy caused me a mostly sleepless night.

I never did look it up on the net. The report likely wouldn't be accurate anyway. It happened near Chatsworth, Ontario, Canada. Probably yesterday.

They will likely sue the tractor maker for not having a "NO RIDERS IN BUCKET" sticker on the loader. It's NEVER their fault. Worse is a Jury will probably award them an insane amount of $$$$$$$$$$

Probably even the maker of the paint on the bucket. Not kidding!

And yet, some people are STILL, somehow proud when their son/daughter, becomes a lawyer!

One of the local Mennonites lets his 18yr old kid operate his Deere 5M series and he's brutal to that thing. Comes around the turn @ 35mph almost over on two wheels. Last year he had his dad's pickup with loaded hay wagon stuck in the field and burned the tires down to the belting trying to get it unstuck - no common sense. Even with the combine he has the pedal to the metal and his brother has to push the dump to keep up. Obviously he's not the one making the payments, or doing the repairs.
