I'd like to be able to use ASCII codes, some seem to work, some don't.
For example ALT plus
227 = π (should be the pi symbol but doesn't look correct)
0176 = ° works
0177 = ± works
228 = Σ works
20 = ¶

Alt 0216 works for a slashed Ø (zero)

Just out of curiosity

I am mostly here on my phone. That was from keyboard symbols since no alt function.

° also = Alt 248

whatever the 3-digit code is, put a zero before it
ALT0227

I'd written on another thread; this only works with a keyboard that has a numbers pad. It will not work with the number keys above the alphabetical keys

By the way, it also depends on what font is displayed. We're quite limited to fonts on TBN. Try typing the pi code in something like Notepad or Word (if you're using a Microsoft PC) then changing to different fonts. The symbol you're seeing for pi is correct, just not in the font that displays it like you want
This is a copy/paste which displays what you want (I think):

Thanks, here's my results, and this must display different on different machines, because
ALT0277 doesn't give me anything
but ALT227 gives me a blocky pi - π

list of ALT227, font name in that font, ALT0176, ALT228:

π Arial ° Σ
π Book Antiqua ° Σ
π Courier New ° Σ
π Georgia ° Σ
π Tahoma ° Σ
π Times New Roman ° Σ
π Trebuchet MS ° Σ
π Verdana ° Σ
/on my laptop Book Antiqua displays like Arial and Courier New. Is there a way to set my default font?
//edit - I found one reference by @Muhammad
linky below from 2000.

+ Display preferences allow you to set your default font size, font face, # of messages per page/threads per page, default sort order on forum index pages, flat or threaded mode, post header format (top or side), post preview screen, text area width and height when posting, and other options.
