What ATV to buy

Food for thought. I just sold my 500 Cat ATV with practically no use on it due to the restrictions the small unit presents. There was a new 2004 EZGO 4x4 with dump box and front and rear hitch, brush bar there for buy it now at less than 6k. I inquired about it but don't want to haul to Pennsylvania to get it. It's still available, I have the name of the dealer if you are interested.

I am looking at a Polaris Ranger locally now.

I think you'll be very happy with the 700 Polaris. I bought a used 2001 700 Sportsman a couple of years ago. It had 1,400 miles on it, original tires, mostly ridden on trails by an older guy. I've used it for skidding logs, plowing snow, collecting sap from 300 taps (we have a small maple syrup operation), moving 1/2 cord of firewood, and tightening the wire that supports the mainlines with the winch. I replaced the rear tires this winter before sugaring season started because there is a lot of slate on our property and even slime wouldn't keep the air in the tires. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gifThere was still enough tread on the tires for 2-3 years, but we don't ever drive on pavement.

bota, I hope you like the Polaris. I know a few people with them and have found them to be good machines.

I have heard of a potential problem with the 2 cylinder Polaris. Using synthetic oil should solve it. The problem is bearing wear (between the connecting rod and crank) on the second cylinder. I have heard it can be starved for oil.

Thanks Charlie,

I'll keep that in mind and use synthetic when I change the oil.

If you'er in the market for accessories winch, brush guard, drive belt ,etc, you may want to check out e- bay. I just bought a brush guard for my sportsman 400 for $ 139.00 + $20.00 shipping . That's less than the dealer wanted ($169.99 + tax ) & I had to pick it up.
