I'm looking at this rake and want to do some research before I show up. It's 8' and it has provisions for wheels and also has a ripper bar in front of the tines that raises and lowers on a cable. Not sure if it locks in place. Seller mentioned it (front ripper bar) seemed to be on a shock absorber. Anyone know the brand/model? York? Asking $375. Seems like a good price for an 8' rake. If so, dibs (already got an appointment first thing tomorrow). Thanks in advance.

PS - It looks to me as the same configuration as a York but there are differences - maybe an older model?

York RW Series Landscape Rakes

I want to use it behind a NH TC-40DA to loosen up an arena (it's clay now but want to eventually get bluestone) and maybe also use it to prepare for grass seeding small pasture (both ripping up for overseeding and new seeding). Is that the purpose for the rippers?

I've got the same NH tractor as you but with a 12x12 transmission and it pulls my 8' York rake with ease.
Your photo will not supersize so I can't really tell you if it is indeed a York brand (it does look fairly similar) however York does have a scarifier option similar as seen in your photo. On mine, there is a factory placard with make and model stamped on it-located on the left side of the top link tower.
The unit you are looking at may have some rusted tines/replacement as it has been sitting in and under the dirt for how long? The scarifier teeth are pretty much bullet proof due to their massive size. POSSIBLY a good catch especially if guide wheels come with it.
Unlike yours, my York rake guide wheel top mounting bars do not extend beyond the tine bar as seen in your photo. perhaps an older design.
York rakes are orange in color-check the olive drab paint-maybe orange underneath or possibly a military issue? Either way if it is a true York, they are bullet proof.

So what are your thoughts now after looking at it?

Looks like a genuine York brand to me.

I think you're right-the RW series- The placard is on the right side or the top link tower. I have the heavier RI model.

Thanks for the help guys. It was York Model RE48. I could not find any info on that model on the net. After close inspection I decided not to get it. It had seen better days but the primary reason I decided not to get it was it needed a lot of work (money) put into it, I already have another landscape rake, and the scarifier bar was quite a bit shorter than the rake (5' vs 8') so I didn't see where this would help in the horse arena as the rake would get up against the fence but the scarifier wouldn't. Wonder why they didn't make them the same length (probably cost and one size fits all)?

It looked heavy duty but it was missing three scarifiers (brackets broken off on two of them) and all the remaining ones needed replaced (worn down to nubs).

One thing that stumped me was how the scarifier bar locked into place. It saw videos of the newer models and it looked like they have a pin that goes into sliding rod - I didn't see a hole on for a pin on this one. The other thing that stumped me was the purpose of the sliding rod and spring. It didn't seem to serve a purpose as the scarifier bar would have been up and out of the way before the spring compressed.

It is in the Petersburg VA area - on Richmond CL if anyone is interested.

I bought this very little used 8' RI with the guide wheels on craigslist two years ago. About a 200 mile round trip and $1200.00. I think it was a good catch as retail new is over $3000.00.
The shop dolly is my build-really handy for manuvering it out of the way.
