I have decided after last nights storm (26" ) that i need to add a 3pt blower to my ck20hst. Does anyone have any input regarding the various manufacturers products ?

i'll be looking for a 50" - 54" unit. i've heard of Meteor and Buhler/Allied. A local shop carries a 51" unit made by DK Martin in Canada for about $1700. Sounds like a good deal, but i've never heard of the manufacturer. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

It depends on what you need. I like the Provonost as it far out blows the Buhler brand, we sell both and I have seen them both operate.

I agree with Art, the Pronovost Puma line is built like a tank and really throws snow. I have a 64" Puma and it works like a charm.

If you do some searching here you will find some discussions about 2 years ago relating to the performance of various types of blowers. Performance depends on a number of things including chute design and fan clearance. Based on the replies from those threads, the Pronovost blowers were winners. But then again, the Pronovost line is not exactly the cheapest price wise, but you get what you pay for.

I've got a Buhler, which is a 'good' brand but not considered the heaviest duty. It has worked very well for me. The main reason I bought it is because it is the only brand I can find at my local dealers!

I also agree with Mad and suggest you do a search. There was quite a bit of discussion about blower problems a while back. It seemed that CHUTE DESIGN and CHUTE LENGTH were major factors in performance.

The blowers with short angles chutes (Provonost, Buhler and others) seemed like they performed better than the models that had long or tall chutes. The owners of brands that had long/tall chutes often complained about clogging at the chute neck and the inability to shoot snow through the chute unless snow conditions were ideal for their particular brand. Short chute blowers did not seem to suffer either the cloggin or the blowing/throwing problems that the long chute brands seemed to have.

I have a JRB 60" rear mount blower for my CK20HST, I have gone through as much as 13" of heavy wet snow with no problem. Never had a clogged chute nor any problems throwing the snow far into the woods. The only benefit that I see from short chutes is the ability to discharge the snow straight down beside the snowblower if you are close to a house of something. Mine was about $1800 brand new and available at my local Kioti dealer.

Which dealer is that? The Blizzard's are a lighter weight blower and usually list for 10%-15% less than a Puma. When you put them side to side you'll know what I mean. If you can get a leftover Puma cheaper than a Blizzard then buy it before someone else does. You will not regret it.

I have the 54" Puma for my CK20. It clears a path just slightly wider than the rear tires. I have definitely gotten my moneys worth out of it. We've gotten our fair share of lake effect. It has been able to handle drifts that were taller than the opening. The key is to not rush it. Better than my old 26" walk behind blower.
