Hi All,

I know there are good ones out there but I want to be specific to these two brands. A poster in another thread said this

"I've always considerd Bush Hog a little overrated and Rhino and little underappreciated, but, 6 in one and half a dozen in the other."

So, if you had your choice of a Rhino or a Bushhog lets say a 72" mower in regular duty either a Rhino 172 or Bushhog SQ172 what would you choose or what did you choose?

I know there are many other brands and maybe we can do another Woods vs. Landpride but for now I am interested in comments on BH and Rhino. I am a Rhino dealer but believe both to be good quality and good companies.

Just checking to see who likes theirs and preferrably if you have had both products which you like best and why.

I'd have to say Bush Hog. Not because I currently own one but from talking with others who do and those who've used both. I had researched Rhino extensively previously and I have a Rhino 10-foot rotary cutter. But if I were choosing a 6 or 7 foot lift type rotary cutter it'd have to be Bush Hog. Mostly anecdotal reasoning though, nothing in real life use.

Oh, if I were getting a batwing I'd probably go with a Rhino though! SE15-4A.

Two words....BUSH HOG.

I own a mowing business. My mowers get more hours in a single season than most get in a lifetime. (As much as 1400 hours per season) Cheap mowers are not even a consideration. Even some of the "name brands" don't hold up to extreme heavy use. And then there's all the various "duty ratings" with-in those brands. Light and medium duty models are OK for occasional use, but put them to the acid test and the fold like a lawn chair.

I've used Woods mowers with poor results. I wouldn't have another one.

Bush Hog and Rhino/Alamo/Shulte (Alamo Group) builds heavy duty and EXTREME duty mowers that are far better than their competition. They offer parts support that is essential for commercial applications. Both water down their light and medium duty mowers for competitive pricing in the general consumer market. You still get the good parts support albiet without the industrial quality.

I'm speaking in terms of batwings AND single-spindle 3-point lift type mowers.

In the end, I've found the RESULTS (quality of cut) to be better with Bush Hog than any others I've tried. That's what my customers care about. I've found I get the most for my dollar with Bush Hog. That's what I care about.

Bush Hog
not even close

Rhino isn't even playing the same game.

Keep them coming. Seems the Bushhog folks are very supportive of their brand. I should rename this thread to bring more folks to it but can't. Maybe a moderator could rename it for me.

More specifically, as you mentioned light duty models from Bush Hog and Rhino, I've heard less complaints on the Bush Hog SQ series. My first post was addressing Bush Hog and Rhino models across the board with little thought to the light and/or medium duty models. In that line, I see EITHER as only slightly better than some popular "economy brands".

If you do purchase a Bush Hog 72" SQ series mower, spend a few bucks (just over $60) and get the 7556 (part #) high lift blades. They leave a VERY nice finished cut. They soak up a couple HP in heavy mowing conditions but the results are well worth the trouble. I've got a pair on a BH 286 that I use to mow part of my lawn with. They do that good of a job.
