I currently have a mid 1980's MF 1020 4wd [40585 ser#] with less than 1500 original hours. Equipped with an Allied 195 front end loader, MF1018 60" mid-mount finish mower. R4 sneakers in the front and rear turf tires. She's a fast starter, even in cold weather, a hard runner and has no smoke, no clunks, bangs, sputters or other awkward moments.
With out being able to see the dark engine oil, free of fuel smell or signs of water, seeing/hearing her run, what would you expect is fair ball-park trade in value?

PS- kinda looking at a similarly equipped MF 1532 or a TYM T300 or maybe a TYM 353...
The 1020 lacks just a few horses under the hood to do all I ask of her...

I expect you'll be walking out of the dealership, throw'in the bird at the sales guy, insulted and looking up craigslist when you get home!:laughing:

Unfortunately, not much trade value on this series Massey Ferguson.

Tractorhouse.com has a few 1020's listed in the 4-6k range. That's what you should ask for yours as you would probably get much lower as a trade. Ask the dealer his new tractor cash price before you suggest what you have to trade. Try to sell yours on craigslist. There's a lot of people looking for a reasonably priced used tractor and it would give you more cash down on your new one.

Anytime you can sell outright you'll be money ahead. But some don't want to wait for it to sell or don't want to mess with buyers so they trade. Anytime a dealer trades he need to make a little more. Compacts in that range have been good reselling. Like mentioned Craigslist is a great place to find a buyer and doesn't cost anything but your time.

I would look at Used Tractors For Sale at TractorHouse.com: John Deere Tractors, used farm tractors and farm equipment, tractors for sale, Case IH, New Holland, Agco, Kubota, www.machine locator.com (AGCO Dealers Website) and Used Tractors and Farm Machinery for sale by Fastline to compare your tractor to others to get an idea what value you have. I get many customers that tell what they need out of their machine and I will tell them if I can do that or not or make a return offer. We deal off selling price so there is no glorified number that over values your trade in but you need to find out hard dollars the dealer is putting in your machine so you can decide what is best for your business.

All of these ideas are great! I have not listed it on Craig's yet, but have done most of the rest of the suggestions- including the bird one at a Greene dealer that didn't want the trade. :)

I would also put it on Craigslist as this is a VERY good time to sell a machine. I just sold a little Kubota and the first person that looked at it wanted it and asked me to hold it for a week until he could pick it up so I am. I was not concerned that he would back out because I had at least 8 other people calling me and wanting to come see it.
Throw it on sites and get a little extra for it.

It is very hard to find a good used little 4wd tractor for less than 8,000.00 around here.

Dealers will give you nothing , Sell it private then get a better deal for cash on a newer one .
