jd2305cd, I watched the video. That is real slick, however, one thing is missing. That guy needs a toothbar on the bucket. Better yet, some clamp-on debris forks. As it is now, the tractor is much less productive as it is taking small bites.

WOW !!! Where did you get the 12 volt actuator?

Pretty lame gripping power.

Got any larger actuators ?

The guy who makes them had some post's on TBN a while ago but got booted for tying to sell them...seems pretty lame to me.

Its got to be a quick fast setup vs going with hydraulic...

Why?

Why do you think its lame, just another way of doing it...

I understand hydraulic is better, just exploring all options. It would be plenty powerful for my 2305. Actuator is rated for 400 lbs push pull, so its got some *** behind her..

At any rate, I figure i can get the actuator for 150 with remote and wiring.

Kenny you don't think running two wires through a toggle switch and to a battery is easier than running hydraulic lines, electric diverter, cylinder, ect..

I know it would cost a lot less. As for gripping power, no clue unless we can find someone to honestly apraise the thing..

I'm thinking 400lbs is not near enough to be effective.

That's what, about 1/50th the power of a hydraulic ram? Definately not nearly the strength required to grab a rock. Much less a log or the like, for the effort I bet it would not prove very effective.

Can't get around the strength of a hydraulic ram, particularly for an application like this.

Actuator probably would work fine in opening a car door or the like.

Just trying to save you some time, money and ultimately frustration.

If you look close, as he moves the load he's trying to contually tighten the grip, I noticed right away.

Good luck either way.

I like the idea of an electric device since it would be so much easier to install, but don't think there is any comparison to the strength that you get from hydraulics. It's not even night and day, it's what works. I was more then a little intimidated about figuring out how to make a grapple work on my tractor, but after awhile, it sort of came to me. There are allot of threads on it here and plenty of experts who have been very helpful in walking the rest of us through the process. Once you do it, you'll realize it really wasn't all that difficult, it's just something new.

The reason for the grapple is to be able to pick up anything that your loader can lift. Having a grapple with a very limited amount of lift just defeats the entire purpose. If you are going to do it, do it right and enjoy it. Otherwise, you'll regret it and probably end up doing it twice so that you'll get something that actually works.

Good luck,
Eddie

I 100% agree that hydraulic is the better choice and much stronger.. After building my log splitter i know some about hydraulics and not worried about the set for a hydraulic grapple, just the cost involved is a bit higher than I like...

I just wish i could find that exact cylinder he is using to get the real specs for it, website says 1500 psi. That's plenty of power if true.. If its electric powered hydraulics i would use it in a second. If its just an actuator then I think i would steer clear from it.

My log splitter use electric power, 2hp high torque motor. Splits about 1 second slower than my buddies 7hp gas briggs.. the nice thing is i can have a conversation with someone and not have to wear ear plugs when running.. :) Plus it runs on a 20 amp dedicated circuit so not to many people can borrow it..

I ask for more info on the cylinder, but didn't get any reply. He has the cylinder for sale for 300 bucks, for that price i would rather go with they hydraulic setup. But if i could pick up that say cylinder some where else for 100 bucks I think i would give it a try..

done rambling..
