I put in a new starter solenoid. As soon as I touch the positive battery terminal to the battery, the starter spins, but does not engage. The starter appears to be getting constant power. I am pretty sure I rewired everything as it originally was.
All I did was take the solenoid off the starter and put a new one in. On the end of the solenoid is a "plunger". Is it supposed to go in a certain way? I pulled the old one out and I thought I could just slide the new one in. But, something is obviously not right. Any suggestions?

ok, it looks like I am going to have to look inside there again. Now, when I back the bolts off just a touch, the continuity across the terminals disappears. As soon as I try to tighten the solenoid down, continuity returns. I tested the solenoid on a bench and it seems to work.
so that narrow end of the plugner with the small spring on it and the clip, needs to catch something inside the starter? I have a pic below. Thanks.

Inside the starter is a lever and it runs in the 12-6 / vertical position. It appears to run at least 3/4 of the entire length of the whole the solenoid goes in. How does the solenoid hook on this? If I put the solenoid in, I would think it would run right into this hook. Any ideas?

If it were as easy as that, it would come unhooked just as easily. Typically the solenoid plunger has to be removed from the coil, hooked over the lever, then the coil slid over the plunger and fastened to the starter.

Thanks for the tip. It looks like I have to compress the spring that is on the hook, and loop the lever. Does this sound right?

Yep, I had to hook the lever. I got it working properly, finally. The tractor now starts on its own power. Thanks.

I wish I could help. I know next to nothing about this machine. I am just getting it started and prepped for sale for the condo that I live in. However, I do believe this came up in one of the threads I started and I do not think it has a glow plug system.
