So I bought this 3500 pound winch the other day when CT Farm and County was liquidating their stock. Most folks in the east are familiar with this company......

My question is. What do I do with it now :) Attaching it to the rear end is probably the best place for me, but I'm open to suggestions on how to install it and where to put it. Any ideas? It did not come with any mounting hardware. It's just a winch in a box with no way to attach it as far as I can tell.

I'm going to post this in Kubota Owning discussion as well. Sorry for the double post.

What type of winch and how much cable on it? Electric, PTO or standalone? I can think of lots of uses....

You won't be skidding any logs with 3,500 lb. winch. It sounds big but is actually quite small. For instance, I have a 2,500 lb pull winch on my 700 pound four wheeler. Came that way from the factory.

If it is electric, (DC) it is for emergency pulls and such. It might be handy for winching broken down equipment onto a trailer if the ramps aren't to high or the equipment to heavy. DC winches use a lot of current and are not for sustained pulling.

You can use a snatch block, (a type of pully block) and do a double line pull, effectively doubling the power of your winch and actually putting less load on the winch motor. Also allows you to pull at an angle.

There are also AC winches and hydrolic winches. The hydrolic would tend to be much larger I would suspect.

The winch I have on my truck is a 9000 lb winch for a 4000 lb truck. I once pulled an excavator out of a lake after chaining my rear bumper to a tree and using a double line pull. (18,000 of pulling power) Wish I had pictures, but no camera and it was at night anyway. Quite exciting with three tires off the ground and fear that I was going to pull my truck in half. Anyway, we got it out...

Three tires off the ground while winching /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif hope you had your fingers cross for luck.
How big was the excavator.

Geez, I wish I had so much money that I could go out and by things just because they're on sale! I agree with mounting it on the front where the weights are attached, that way it's close to the battery. Winches will draw a lot of current, so the shorter the cable the better. I have an 8000lb Warn on my Jeep and use it for pulling stumps, dragging logs, pulling partly fallen trees down the rest of the way before they fall on somebody, and of course getting my Jeep unstuck on those few occasions that I manage to get it stuck. I'm heading to my local Quality store to see if I can get a good deal on a truck tool box. I'm sure going to miss them!
