Well, my TC 33D has survived 30 hours of operation by my wife and myself. We're escapees from the city, totally green when it comes to tractors, so I guess that must mean that the TC 33D is built "idiot proof."

In fact, we have not had any problems with Big Blue, other than the fact that it seems like it has rained every day (or at least every other day) since we got her two and a half months ago. But with the 4WD, she's handled the mud just fine.

In 20 more hours of use, Big Blue's gonna need her first routine servicing.

I don't have a trailer big enough to carry her to the dealer (and the DW says I can't get one until she replaces her computer with that fancy multi-media job she's drooling over right now), so I'm figuring I'll probably do the work myself. I do change the oil in my car, for what its worth.

What do I need to know as I prepare to do this?

What supplies, parts, and tools do I need to purchase?

What exactly needs to be done during this routine servicing?

Do I have to service the FEL as well, or just the tractor itself?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Most of this information should be covered in your manual.
At the minimum, you'll need an oil filter and the correct oil (something rated for a diesel engine). The capacity should be listed in your manual. Get a couple extra quarts of oil. You'll need the correct sized wrench or socket to remove the drain plug and a strap wrench or filter wrench to rmove the old oil filter. Make sure you've a container big enough to catch the oil as you drain it..

I assume you have HST. You really need to check your manual, but I reckon this oil and filters require changing too.
Same as with the engine oil, you'll need the replacement oil and filters. The biggie here would be having a container large enough to catch the old fluid....might be a few gallons (or more) here.

If you're not equipped for this, you might ask your local dealer for a price on picking up the machine and doing the initial maintenance. My dealer charges $40 for pick up and delivery plus the material/labor.

The most important thing to know is the location of your Operator's Manual as Roy suggested. After that, it's a matter of "C-C-L-C-A." /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif What's that mean? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Check, Clean, Lube, Change, and Adjust are the columns in your Maintenance Schedule that you need to concentrate on.

There is a block of things that you will do ONLY at the first 50 hours and another you do at EVERY 50 hours. The things done ONLY at 50 hours include: Changing all your filters, Engine, HST, Hydraulic, and Fuel. Only the engine oil gets changed. You do not have to change the hydraulic fluid until you reach 300 hours according to the maintenance schedule.

Be prepared for the shock of buying filters. I think I mentioned this back when you were looking for your tractor, but you will need to be prepaired to pay around $100 for all the filters. The hydraulic filter by itself is around $60. The cheapest one is the engine oil filter. That's good, because you need to change oil and filter every 100 hours. The fuel filter gets changed every 250 hr, and the transmission/hydraulic oil and filters (both HST and hydraulic) are changed every 300 hours. At least you'll have some time to save your money before having to buy them again. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm going to go back to my original statement and say you should spend some quality time with your Operator's Manual. You want to do this at the tractor so you can find everything called out for maintenance. Some things are pretty hard to find, especially grease zerks. If there is something you can't find or a procedure that is not clear, then you can ask here about the specific thing and I guarantee you will find someone who knows exactly what to do. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

GreenAcres, glad to hear you are enjoying that new tractor /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif. I just did the 50 hour service on my TC33DA. If you can change the oil in your car, you can do this easy enough. Once again, consult the owners manual. It contains valuable information such as scheduled maintenance charts and grease zerk locations. Also, instructions on how to do some of the things you may not be familiar with, such as bleeding the fuel system when you change the filter. I must admit I was a little hesitant to change the fuel filter myself, having never bled a fuel system before /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. However, the manual walks you thru it step by step and it is really simple /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif. I purchased everything from my dealer :

Case of oil $27.00 (cheaper by the case)
Oil filter $9.64
Hydraulic filter $30.45
Hydro filter $20.09
Fuel filter $2.97
Gal. hydr. fluid $8.00

I thought those filter prices were a little steep until I saw what Jinman paid /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. Hope you don't have to pay those "Texas prices" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
Yes, you should also grease the loader at this time. Again, the loader manual will have a grease zerk location chart.
I spent slightly over an hour doing the service. You shouldn't have any problems doing it yourself. Best of luck /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif!!

Do you guys know of any dealers that will ship filters (air, fuel, oil, HST, hydraulic) at a reasonable price- I too am 50 miles from the closest one. Are prices reasonable? I don't have a problem paying shipping and handling if it's "reasonable".......... I have a CT33D.

Pls take some time and fill out your profile. You might get a few more answers if we know your approximate location, etc. Did a quick search, and found no NH dealer who quotes handling and shipping charges on the web. Several do have email service where you can ask for a quote for a parts order. That would lead me to looking into using your local Wix jobber. You can get all your filters from Wix except for the HST filter. I would expect Wix prices to be comparable. You would then be left with only how to obtain an HST filter, if you can get the Wix filters locally. Hope this helps out.
