Hello, This is my first post. I picked up a YM 1720D recently and have been fixing it up. At this point I'm replacing the Hydraulic pump, as I have blown the seals in it trying to start it without the FEL. I was taking off the FEL to work on the engine and didn't relize the hoses needed to be connected. OUCH! So I'm blowing out oil from the rocker cover bypass and the Hydraulic reservouir is gone low.
So while I have it off I want to clean the filters and remove any extra hoses that are not being used. Can anyone tell me what these hoses are and the reason for them? Can I take the hoses off and cap the attachments? Also, what is the attachment on the back of the seat?
Thanks in advance, Guy

I do know that the YM1720/YM1720D has OE power steering. So be aware should you start taking hoses off and the steering gets stiff.

A friend of mine in TN has the same model he had gotten 3 years ago from Fredrick's totally restored with the Koyker loader. It's a great machine. Hope someone knows more about this to help you.

that (what ever it is behind the seat) is something someone has added to the tractor. It appears those two hoses power what ever it is. If you don't want to use what ever that is, you can disconnect those and cap them

Thanks guys for the responses.
Kenmac, looking at the service manual I know they are not original. I'm thinking I can just un-bolt them, cap the ports and that should be fine. Although, I'm curious what they were for. The guy we bought the tractor from didn't know.
Thanks, Guy

Some type of aux hydraulics . Looks like some type of motor.
Some people will add hydraulics for the 3rd arm. Does it appear the center link could attach to this ?

Stop and learn what the hoses do before capping them. They might be return loops, ie a loop replacing an implement that had been plumbed in series. If so, replacing a loop with caps would deadhead the pump and destroy it.

they appear to tie into ports under the seat.
It appears someone was using those ports to provide aux hydraulics to something

If this is the case, he should be able to disconnect them from those ports and cap them.
I'm quite sure one is pressure and one a return.

Kenmac, It doesn't look like it had any connecting links or type of connection. In the manual those ports are capped. My other thought was that it had something to do with the UFO control. But that control is pretty wethered and doesn't look functional.
California, they do create a loop, I'm already replacing the pump for deadheading it already. Would hate to do it again.

Thanks, Guy

Those hoses are coming off the auxiliary outlets on your control valve. Yes, you can disconnect them but you must remove the headless plug. You can also just make a loop with a hose and leave the headless plug. If you don't do this you will deadhead.

Curious where the other hoses go from that valve behind the seat?

I agree they are auxiliary hoses that were used for something else, maybe a 3ph log splitter? Any how as California said, make sure you know what they are before removing them. Winston has a great picture for reference too, and maybe you might want to use those ports at some point too. Per Winston "Deadhead" not sure if you are not familiar with that term or not, but if you don't figure out the flow of those hoses you will be purchasing another pump.
