My x-neighbor sold his place and is building a house on 5 acres. He bought a used DK-40. He was asking me what these levers did. I could have fired it up, and likely figured it out, but I didn't. I'm pretty sure this one controls the rear remotes. Edit this one is the mid pto. The rear remote control is seen in the bottom of the next picture. image-774302509.jpg One of these lifts the three point hitch, but what does the other one do? image-2825469047.jpg This is a geared tractor. What does the second hi and low range selector do? image-2759493335.jpg The loader valve appears to have an extra spot. Could these be used to control a grapple? image-1633972554.jpg Is this brush guard factory? It appears homemade, but the welding is better than the average DIY job. image-2800693070.jpg

I could guess at the loader valve... the right side, the top hose is (maybe?) high pressure in. Below that are the two end caps of the loader valve (sorry nothing extra to run a grapple). Large hose below that is high pressure out to power your 3 point hitch. The bottom, smaller hose is the low pressure oil return hose.
.
Left side, top two could be the lift and the bottom two for the curl (or vice versa).

The handles by the right fender, the outside handle should be the 3 point lever, the inside handle should be the draft control lever.
The levers by the left fender, one handle should be high/low range. The other lever could be a creeper gear option.
I don't believe that is a factory grill guard, I thought the factory guards hinged out in the middle to let the nose cone of the hood flip open for access to the battery and grill screens (I know my older model DK 35 does)

pretty sure the extra HI-LO is a creeper gear, agree the inside lift lever on the right side is the draft control. No the brush guard is not factory. Home made or shop made. I don't see anything unusual about the loader valve.. 7 hoses , Flow in, Power Beyond out, Tank and the 4 work ports. Easy to figure out if the creeper option is there, put both levers in LO, choose a low gear, let out clutch, get off tractor, go eat supper, come back, If the tractor hasn't moved much... it has a creeper gear:D

I believe the grill guard is a hand crafted one.

What is draft control? Why would you need creeper gear? Is it slower than the average 1st gear at about 1 mph.

Creeper gear is handy when you want to go slower than your regular gearing will do. Of course it also gives you double the number of gears.

Draft control: ( I need to save this somewhere so I can cut and paste:))

First we need to discuss how position control works. Quick and dirty explanation, where you set the control lever along its numbered arc the 3pt moves to a position that corresponds to the numbered arc position and stays there. Even when the actual 3pt cylinder bleeds down after a while, and they all do to some extent, the feedback mechanism will detect the bleed down of the cylinder and open the valve to allow more fluid to put the cylinder back to where it was before the bleed down. Also since you can return the lever to the exaction same position each time by observing the numbered arc on the control escutcheon or setting the stop bolt, you be assured of the implement to be returned to the exact predetermined height each and every time. So far so good?

Now lets talk about a real world example us using position control with a simple plow. We are plowing at a fixed depth as set by the position control. We can raise the plow at the ends and return it to the same position. So far so good, but now we hit a big old rock down in the ground. What should happen? Tractor tires spin? stall etc? Solution? Raise the dang 3p out of the ground enough to go over the rock and then lower it on the other side of the rock to resume plowing right?

Now the Draft control, It automatically does just what you did by hand in the above example. You are plowing along, hit the rock, and it will raise the 3pt and lower it as soon as the "pull" or "draft" will allow it to go back down to the preset depth set by the position control. This is mixed/draft controls.
With the Draft lever you are setting the sensitivity of the draft function with this control. Also most top link attachment points will affect the draft setting by choosing the correct "hole" for the top link that changes the leverage on the sensitivity mechanism. On the DK there are 2 active settings and the top setting overrides the draft control entirely.
