Still looking...
After posting in Skip’s thread re the 4115, I’m starting to look closer at this tractor as a possible choice for me.

John Deere 4115 Tractors - Compact (1-40hp.) LV4115H421388 - John Deere MachineFinder.com

I will most likely be buying either a 2320 or 2520, but if the price is right on this 4115, it may make sense. I called the dealer and it was used only for mowing in it’s short 25 hour service life. My only concern with it is it has been sitting outside in the Vermont weather for a year and a half (can’t believe they did that). The guy said the paint is a bit faded and the front grill has some rust. What do you guys think? If it’s been sitting idle that long in the elements can there be anything else wrong?

It was originally priced at $14,900 and just recently dropped to $13,500. If I could get them down to say $11,000 to $12,000 range would that be a good price? I’d have to buy a 200CX loader which would push it another couple grand.

How would this machine compare to the 2320/2520?

Thanks very much.

I am surprised the dealer is still hanging on to that machine when it is 2 year old and previous model. I don't like the fact it has been sitting outside for 2 years. It is more of a cosmetic issue but still has some effect on resale. If you can get it down to 11K, that would be very good. If they have had it this long and only dropped the price $1500, I suspect the dealer won't budge on his price much.

Radman1, I think you are right. I highly doubt he'll go any lower. At his price, by the time you get done with a 200CX, it would be not too far off the price of a 2320/2520. I am really particular about my machines, cars, etc., and would NEVER leave it outside for that long. Between the UV and water, I'm sure it has taken it's toll.

At that price point you are better off going new IMHO - warranty and a few features the 4115 dosent have (its a good machine still) - so go for the 2520

Agreed.

Just talked to wifeypoo and she said "honey, you don't want a machine that's been sitting out in the freezing rain and snow all that time"... Gosh, I knew there was a reason why I married her... :) She likes tractors too.

I would agree with the other posters, no loader, weathered, etc, maybe not the best deal. The machine I was looking at is pristine & was only used to move sawdust around a horse barn, I am told. I believe the 2520 is the direct replacement for the 4115 & I agree it is a nice machine.

I know this is a bit off subject, but has anyone here ever used MachineFinder to SELL a tractor, or is it just dealer based? I am thinking about selling my 3720 and wanted some opinions on good, reputable forums by which to advertise.

as far as i know its only dealer based. im a member of the site and have never seen anywhere to sell anything. i could be wrong though. if you want to sell your tractor, the most common sites i know of are tractorhouse.com and craiglist.com. theres also a place on here to sell equipment. if it were me i would suggest TBN or tractorhouse. also, run an add in your local trader or newspaper. heavy equipment trader is a good one also.

I have searched Machine Finder and Tractorhouse and spent some time on ebay(careful of the scams). I don't understand why the dealers want so close to new price for a 4115 when the replacement 2320/2520 can be had for similar $$. Is this what the used market will bear or is it just a dealer thing? I think the 4115 is a good compromise of size, horsepower and features, but the prices make me think twice about just buying new, oh and I so badly want to continue bleeding green
