My hunting buddy had a great tatic. He spent $700+ on the 30-06 Weatherby, his wife was starting to freak out and he pointed out that it was $1000 rifle... You know she thought it was a bargin and not another word about the investment.

In 1996 when I got my HD soft-tail custom, my wife explained to the neighbour that it was better than her hubby re-living his prime with a young girlfriend.
When the BX arrived she told the neighbour, "At least I don't have to go riding on it with him and he stays alto closer to home now.

My wife of 27 years, I'm sure, will survie me many more.
and that's Enough said about that subject.

When we bought our 24 acres back in '98 my wife of 23 years (at the time) and I spent a couple of weekends cutting brush and pulling vines out of the elm trees in the central part of the property. This was hard work, and the grass and brush were dragging it through was chest high. I had been laying brochures around and not saying anything and one day she said "Why can't we get a tractor to help clean this up?" The next week or so I made a deal.

She never gets on the tractor, but loves the enjoyment and stress relief I get out of it. Plus, she appreciates all the work we can accomplish in a lot less time.

I have similar experiences, I spend alot of time devoted to family time. My wife is still not convienced that we really needed a tractor, the riding lawn mower was doing the job all be it not nearly as fun. She however says she knows I enjoy it and that good enough for her. I guess the jewlery over the years paid off. My wife a jewel herself I did not have to hard sell her at all.

Those are some pretty good replies. Here's what I told my wife after we bought the 23 acres of woods and field. "We can get picks and shovels and wheelbarrows for both of us, and maybe a garden tractor to cut the grass. Then we'll probably need at least 3-4 snow shovels each year to clean out the 1/4 mile of driveway, because they'll wear down pretty quickly with both of us shoveling. Or we can get a tractor with a MM mower and loader and a few other attachments for about $20-25K. The first plan will save us a lot of money for a while, but after I have my first heart attack, the tractor will look cheap in comparison". We went looking for tractors 2 days later.

Alan,

Right on. After about a year with my new tractor my wifes starts with "where's mine". She now is a lawn mowing fool and I have one more tractor to service but overall chores take a lot less time.

Rogue,
That's great. I totally agree. "I gotta go move more of those damn rocks again, will it ever end"
