What happens when you \"power reverse\" at speed?

I took an informative test drive, on a 4610 with "Power Reverse" manual transmission. I was very impressed with the ability to power reverse with just a flip of a lever.

Question for anyone: what would happen if you hit the lever while rolling at a very good speed? Wouldn't something break?

I should have asked the dealer this one; please forgive the dumb question.

Ken, that's a great question and I would expand it to "how does a power-reverser work?" I ran a friends dozer with a similar transmission feature and it really got me wondering how it could do what it did. Only thing I could figure is it must have two clutches, a forward and a reverse. One disengages while the other engages. If that were the case, reversing at speed would just mean more clutch slippage and shorter clutch life. Anyone out there really know what makes these things tick?

I am pretty sure that the little "e" in ePowreverser comes to play here. It is electronically controlled to keep all the monkeys working the right way.

OOps I guess the 4610 doesn't have that little "e" does it?

Whiplash!!!!!!

Black eyes !!!

Brocken Wrists !!!!

Chipped TEETH!!!!!!!!!

I have a 4310 with the E-PowerReverser, the faster you go foward, the faster you go backwards. Same gear each way, I still use the clutch unless I'm on flat ground and have lots of room to brake.

Can't seem to get used to not having to push in the clutch before I change direction.

Nothing happens. You can be going forward at a good clip and go into reverse. It will slow down and then go into reverse. I wouldn't do it all the time but I've done it a few times and no metal clanking or whiplash effects.

say what you will, JD made a good choice on the pwrrevsr, it is slick and sliky smooth to operate,no jerky moves at all, just fwd and back. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
