What has been the worst car you\'ve owned?

As a newly recovering, former Volvo owner I finally feel like the 12 step program is working.

No more unexpected $1500.00 repair bills, or relapses into towed to the dealer status.

Can you imagine putting $8000.00 in repairs into a 2002 car in 1 year?

I thought my wife was going to dance in the street when I
traded it in...

Phil,

I live in Woodstock Valley Ct. Volvo's are pretty scarce in our
neck of the woods. A Subaru is like the team uniform.

So I bought Subaru #3. I've had great luck with them
and they go through snow like you wouldn't believe.

I drove our 96 wagon through 1 foot of snow plowing it
with the bumper and it went through with no problem.

A 1978 Dodge van (B200) takes top honors because we bought it new and had it in the shop for 13 major repairs in the year of warranty--including two new transmissions. It also had numerous water leaks in the body which were never all repaired adequately.Traded it shortly after warranty.

1985(?) Chevrolet Caprice ties with a 1982(?) AMC Concord. The Caprice's 305 could not be made to run properly by any mechanic who ever worked on it (and there were many), and the Concord had lots of steering/front end/suspension problems. I don't think either of the above was ever considered a classic problem car (a la the Pontiac Fiero, Chevy Vega, etc.)

I had the true misfortune of owning a Fiat strada back in the '80's. It was a world class piece of trash. You could turn right by just mashing the gas down, no steering wheel needed. It made a vega look good to me.

'88 Honda Civic LX
'88 Mercury Grand Marquis LS
'96 Mazda 626
'97 Honda Civic EX
'00 Chevy K3500 Crew Cab
'04 Buick LeSabre

I had good luck with all these vehicles, but if I had to pick the worst, I'd say the '72 Olds 88. It had transmission problems beginning around 65K miles.

1993 F250 - It only gets the worst rating because it now has a few things wrong but runs great. Needs two power window clutches, AC is out, power steering getting rough, needs new or resprung front leafs, tachometer does not work, engine has always been anemic, but, as I said, its not bad. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Worst auto was either my old Powerstoke or my old z28(chevy) ..both are neck and neck but for $$$$ wise, the Powerchoke wins. There was always something elec breaking etc.

I have been fortunate enough that we have never owned a bad car. I've only purchased one new car in my life... an 89 Chevy Cavalier Z24. It ran and ran with minimal repairs. We sold it after 12-13 years due to body rust, but it is still running around our neighborhood. All of the other cars we have owned were purchased used and ran well while we had them(knock on woodgrain plastic). /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
