What I remember about my Dad on Father\'s day

I am sure that I got my love of planting things from my dad. I can still see his hands, and the care he took in planting things in the garden. His hands were rough and calloused and seem bigger in my memory than they probably were. Each plant recieved the same care, from the size of the hole, to the addition of water, the backfilling of dirt, the packing of the soil to remove air. It is funny how these seemingly simple things, are the ones I remember the most.

Dad, thanks for teaching me the miracle of growing things. I have tried to pass it on to my children.

My dad was, among other things, a demolitions officer in WWII, an architect and an amature archeologist. He liked to paint with water colors and built his own 6" reflector telescope and a really cool house that I grew up in. I remember he had to work way too much to support his 5 kids and wasn't around much. But when he was around, it was always very interesting. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I miss him too. He passed away in 1995 at the age of 76 from complications brought on by a weird cancer. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Funny how I always thought of him as this big, bald man when I was little and now I look just like him /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
