What is a fair rental price for my tractor?

I am now working for a non-profit organization...a farm with a youth outreach program. I would like to rent my tractor to them (with me as the oporator) to install some french drains. I have a 3520 and will be using the loader/backhoe combination to do this work. What is a good hourly price to pay for the machine. My labor is already paid for, the fuel will be provided, and I don't want to make a profit on this. The director would rather work out an system to use my machine on occasion in lieu of rentals. Thanks.

Find out what the rental yard cost locally, then discount it from there... 25% less??

If it was a non-profit that *I* like and think is worthy... I'd do it for the seat time and lunch. I don't think I would ever wear out a tractor so "wear & tear" doesn't count for me.

Why Mr Jimi? I could see doing similar things myself and would love to know the downsides - I've had some useful downsides of other behavior pointed out to me on this forum and would always prefer to learn from others mistakes - I've still got plenty of my own to make.

Yea I probably would not charge either. But if something breaks it's probably your nickel.

It's a fine thing to offer your services and possibly equipment, but you don't want to be taken for granted or your equipment for granted. The first thing you know is that they will be suggesting that you leave it at their location for a while. Then Joe-blow will be using it while you're indisposed. Then they will be becoming impatient when you have your own projects to work on rather than theirs.
I'd suggest that you make them rent and transport a similar tractor the first time. Then they'll realize how much you're offering them.

They want to pay some price to avoid the "taking it for granted" situation for all of us. I live 3 miles away, so the tractor would be my ride for the day and going home at night. I'm just looking to nail down what actual cost to operate really is for maintainence and initial cost etc.

Your home insurance does not cover your tractor if there is an event OFF YOUR PROPERTY...unless you are going to another of YOUR land parcels...You would need to look into a temporary liability insurance policy while you are operating on behalf of the non-profit...
