Larry, it's been 9 or 10 years since our experience with Gator blades. Obviously some things have changed in that time. In the first place, we paid more than twice as much for the Gator blades as OEM blades, so that's changed. Secondly, the Gator blades were much thinner metal, probably half the weight of OEM blades. I don't know whether that has changed or not, nor do I know whether, or how much, that affected their cutting ability. The pictures I've seen show basically the same blades as they first had, but I don't know that to be a fact. So maybe they're good now.

The Gators I have for my 1864 are pretty stout. Would be a great weapon for a cave-man :)

Some time ago I posted and made recomendations to people in use of the Gator Blades. For me on my New Holland 914 I would use nothing but the Gators. And they actually were cheaper from New Holland than the New Holland Blade was. My mower doesn't work for crap unless you have a high lift blade. Now some have used the New Holland High lift blades and feel they get just as good of results. I like the way the Gator chops the grass up. Another thing I did by accident was once I ran over a pop can with my regular blades and the can came out with just a few rips in it. So after having my Gators for a while I purposely ran over a pop can and the can came out just about destroyed and in pieces. Now I never went back and tested with the regular blades again as it is a (pain) to take the blades off. But even in the clippings you can see they are smaller.

But I have also found that some people are not as impressed with them and I think every mower is different and each persons expectations are different. They are not the expensive, try em, if you like them great, but if you don't, then go back.

Me I will stay with them until I get a different mower but will try them on the new mower.

Larry that is what is great about America, everyone has the right to their opinion.

With no offense, it is a mixed bag to me as I do not use this sight as my sole source of information, and I have received some other con feedback from my dealer for whom I trust and other CC owners.

But thank you for your input.

I will see how the tractor cuts first and since the blades are not that expensive, I might just have to give them a try. Sometimes you just got to see for yourself....grin. The PMZ

I contacted Specialty Small Engine ,the manufacturer of Gator Blades, to order a set for my 2544 and was told they don't make the blades for this model.

That's the nice part. For about $35, you can indeed give them a try and see how you like them!

Larry thank you for the reply.

I cut my lawn today for the first time with the mulch plug in and it cut great and my lawn was 6-8 inches in places and other than having to go back over some places like I expected, I got a really nice cut. I did lose the stupid little bolt that holds the plug in, so I will have to buy another one. With the cut I go today though, I am staying with stock blade until I see a cut a don't like.

Man this tractor sure is sweet and the ride and smooth engine with throttle up really surprised me with how quiet it was.

Got to go, need to fill my tank you know, The PMZ
