I see all these posts about diesel Kubota's that cost 10k plus and and HPX Deere's that cost 10K plus and High dollar Rangers etc. etc.

These all look great, but way more than I need to spend. I'm just wanting something to play around with on 6.5 acres and drive down to my brother place who just bought a piece of property about 3 miles down a limerock road.

Main uses would be:

Hauling around light loads say maybe 500-600 lb's at the most. Would like one with an assited dump bed.
Taking my three year old and Wife for little trips around the property and down to my brothers. So it needs to seat at least 2.5 to 3 people.
Putzing around without having to open and close doors.
Maybe a hunting trip from time to time.

More or less it will be a toy that I can also use around my property.

I guess I would like a simple UTV that is fun. Does not to be a speed demon, but I don't want a turtle either.

Any recomendations?

If you don't want/need 4wd, then look at the regular gators. They are much cheaper. I see alot of people on golf carts that have been lifted and have atv tires. My brother priced one for about $3500. I paid $8100 for the hpx I just traded in. The xuv was $8700 before I added on some extras. JC

Anything in say the 5-6k range. Are the 2x gators around here? Only thing with the gators that I have seen is that they all have bucket seats. I think I would prefer a bench so my daughter can be sandwiched between my wife and I.

Might want to look at a Mule 600 bench seat $5900 list.

Are you looking at a new or used utv?

My neighbor has a Mule 600 or 610. It will haul four adults up a decent hill. Slowly, but it will do it. Two on the front bench and two adults in a rumble seat in the rear bed. It has 4-wheel drive and with one or two people only, it will climb some steep hills. That last 400# of load really affects performance. Kawa dealers stick very close to list price. Do not expect more than 5-7% off list. I think a brand new 600/610 would be under $6000 including tax, etc. Check their website, deduct 5% from list and then add tax and $150 or so for set up and delivery.

With all the people wanting the new Jd XUV, there should be a lot of late model HPX's available soon. If you realy want a decent dump bed, consider the JD or RTV models. A late model HPX with dump bed will be $5000-8000 depending upon accessories and year.

I own a Kawasaki 3010, that is more than what you you said you want, but let me tell you that little machine is worth it's weight in gold around my place. My wife loves to drive it and isn't afraid of it. To me, that is important. She has even gone so far as to make a seat cover for the front seat, the vinyl gets to hot for her in the summer when she wears shorts and she made a nice canvas top to shield her from the direct sun. Like I said, she loves it.
Just don't buy your service parts, filters and such, from the Kawasaki dealer. Kawasaki thinks their parts are worth their weight in gold too. Go to NAPA or some other good auto parts store to get them.
Bottomline, I don't think you would be unhappy with a Mule.

Great reply's. I'll definately check out the Mules. They have been around forever and I'm sure are good. I haven't ruled out used either. Maybe even get a golf cart type machine. Electric wouldn't be bad.

On the JD product, as Lewis noted, there will be a large number of lightly-used HPX Gators coming in. Also the Gator price has come down some since the XUV was released. The same machine might be a bit cheaper of late. Also, some JD dealers occasionally get program Gators, which have been used doing light duty work. My dealer, although he does not have any right now, usually gets some from our NASCAR speedway. They are used to do infield work and rarely have any off road or harsh duty on them. The tires usually are changed as they run on asphalt all day, but they rarely have more than 100 hours of easy usage. Most of these options would get you on a Gator for about $6000 if not less for a gas model. The Mules are great machines, and are very durable. They are painfully slow though. I would look hard at a Mule also, but if you wanted a little more performance, go with a lightly used HPX.
