What is a used Polaris 500 worth?

2008 Polaris 500 HO with 30 hours on it. Stealth black, seems to look good in pics. thought about looking at it tomorrow. Guy is asking $4850 and i can buy a new 500 for $5500. NADA is about $4000 and KBB is about $4200, are the used ones bringing more than book?

They do if the seller can get it! The book should be used to beat this seller down on his price. The book is just a average of reported sales. I doubt if there is enough of this new of used unit being traded to get a "good", average. In other words 10 sales could create the whole average. Why is the person selling? This should also be used in your thoughts on pricing. Usually the new model includes some factory incentive on financing. Warranty also comes into play. All that being said I am looking at a 800 this friday at a farm auction. Good luck!

Go to the nearest dealers and see what they are asking for their used machines. A lot of the value, in my book, has to do with how it was driven. If it has been run hard and overheated, value goes way down.

Also, it is worth even less if the bank has a lien on it, or it is stolen. Cars have titles registered with the state that can be checked, don't know about 4 wheelers in your neck of the woods. If the seller says, "its not mine, I'm just helping so-n-so sell it because (insert sob story here)", then leave immediately.

Ok, I may be cynical, but these things are easy to steal and they disappear frequently.
