what is it worth?

looking @ buying a used maschio finish mower for my tractor. according to the current owner it is good to excellent shape. the pictures he sent are not all that bad...probably going to look at this afternoon. according to him, it has about 100 hours on it with new blades and belts are in good condition. it has also been stored in a shed.

so what say you...what is it worth, and what would you offer to begin with?

I have a Caroni finish mower which is about 6 years old. I bought it new and it was selling for $980.00 at the time ... This one appears to be a 6' model rear discharge ... I like the rear discaharge but when I bought mine I was into side discharge ... that was one mistake on my part ... The only thing I would consider changing is to get the pneumatic tire kit as the hard rubber tend to dig into this Florida sand. I have change the blades only once and I normally sharpen once a year ... mine gets used a lot and hard when it does ... would I have another ... well if this one ever wears out I might as I have had zero problems with this one ...
Unfortantly, I cannot help you with the present worth of the one you are looking at ... they are good machines I think!

I think a 6 foot maschio finish mower can be had for about 1400 new.

You should be able to get this for at least 50% off that value, but it depends on the age, condition and how bad you want to buy it and he wants to sell it. But 50% is a reasonable figure from the price of a new unit.

paul, you're spot on. i went and looked at it saturday afternoon, and brought it home for $700. it is dirty in the picture, but cleaned up nicely. i greased all of the zirk joints, hooked it up and mowed about an acre of 14" grass in about 30 minutes. it cuts very nicely. the hard part was picking up all the clippings!

i also googled them, and it seems new ones go from about $1600-$1900, so i think i got a reasonable buy. thank you for the input.
