5" of wet snow, pelting rain, and my TN70 is in a 3" water puddle that will freeze solid tonight. Tractor is flashing a Power Shuttle failure code 37-- at least the driveway is not blocked by the tractor, things could be MUCH worse considering the flooded ground all around the driveway!

(with the engine off, the code is 59, I presume this means "engine off" and error?)
(with the engine on, the code is 37, although I first read it as 47).
Hadn't even reached operating temperature, was just starting to remove the slushy snow-- moved from where I park to the head of the driveway, backed a few meters then that was it. Hydraulics were still somewhat cold and heavy, ambient of about 33F.

Dealer is closed now :( and if it is not a simple problem I can fix, tractor is 1/4 mile off the road. Fluids look normal although there is a more foam in the hydraulic fluid than I would expect (never looked at it just after running, always just before running (except today, since it was raining pretty hard did not check before running)).

Thanks for any information.

The fault code list I have available is not specifically for a TN/A tractor, but there is great commonality betwen the TN and TL logic, so here goes. Fault 37 calls out a sticking clutch pedal switch (not potentiometer). If you pushed in the clutch pedal and the switch stuck, you're probably not moving until it gets unstuck. Fault 59 calls out no signal or multiple signals (F+N+R) from the shuttle switch. It wouldn't be much of a stretch to think today's weather contributed to both. Cycling the clutch pedal may unstick the pedal switch. Not sure about the shuttle fault; maybe a hair dryer?? I can't recall having to troubleshoot either of these faults as of yet.

Thanks for the info-- pressing the clutch pedal makes the error indicators go out, making me think that the pedal switch is either ok, or the part sensed for the display works.

Might be possible to have an issue with the shuttle lever, a great pile of snow slid off the FOPS (not sure I like that smooth flat top surface) onto the dash earlier in the day. The wind a few days before blew off the covers which are there to keep things dry.

Wonder why the higher priority 59 code disappears when the engine is running.

I'll have to check the tractor again after the sun comes out and drys things off, maybe the problem is self healing. Of course, that means I have an intermittent :(

Yep.. I hate self healing problems cuz untill you pinpoint them.. you never know whn they will flair up again.

Take a hair drier to all the exposed sensors and switches you can find.. see what happens.

If the error code goes away when you have the clutch depressed, then Rick's diagnosis of sticking switch is almost certainly the culprit. From what I underestand, when you depress the clutch, there is logic that expects the safety switch to be activated (pressed). If you release the clutch and that switch plunger stays stuck in, then the system will give you that error because it expects the switch to be deactivated. You can remove that access cover and see if the switch is stuck in. If it is, it is really easy to pull the switch plunger back out. From there, maybe squirt some WD-40 on it and cycle it a few times to make sure it stays unstuck.

The error code goes away when the pedal is depressed because in that instance the switch position agrees with the potentiometer output value. As the pot value moves well above where the switch normally changes state, the fault code is triggered.

For your information, the next day was sunny in the 40s, and the tractor worked fine. I poked around some but there wasn't anything obviously amiss, or places where water could get in and freeze that I could see.

I'll be getting around to ordering a set of (expensive!) manuals sometime-- CNH site says they are stock out for the complete set at the moment.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the update. I had been wondering. Looks like you will be able to give it a workout tomorrow and Saturday.
