What is Rockshaft Selector Lever on JD 2240

I have owned and operated a John Deere 2240 tractor for 14 years. Today I noticed a lever which I had never used. I went to the operator's manual and it is shown and labeled as "Rockshaft selector lever" but I can't find it discussed anywhere in the operator's manual. What is the purpose and how is this lever used? Feel silly asking such a question after this amount of time but am dying to know what it does and what I have been missing. Thanks to everyone for there input.

Are you referring to the L/D control selector lever(parts key #9)??? If so it should be placed in "D" for every 3 pt task except plowing with a 3 pt plow. I got called confrontational on this site not long ago when I suggested that the OP should read their operators manual.
