I've been reading and posting on these forums for many years and I've always wondered what is supposed to be the difference between the "John Deere Ag forum" and the "John Deere Owning/Operating forum"? I'm never quite sure which one I should be posting to when I have questions about my 5510. Anyone care to enlighten me?

My take/opinion is the owning/operating is for questions comments on using/operating any John Deere. The John Deere Ag forums, is for specific problems/failures/repairs/upgrades for John Deere AG tractors. Again just my take/opinion.

For me, that is a good explanation. Just avoid posting the same question/comment in more than one.
The lawn and garden is more clear separation, but often they get into the owning/operating forum.
Difficult to keep all the many forum members corralled into the right one, so will always see some overlap. IMO

i would not worry about it to much. i generally use "todays posts" or "new posts" when clicking and viewing forums, and then use google to search the forums...

example of google search type in the following
agriculture site:tractorbynet.com
above with search for "agriculture" and just tractorbynet website.

if site was specifically for professionals and only for professionals. it might be a different story, but even then. everything ends up blending together so much. take your best pick and go with it. other words try categorize a longer conversation you are having with some folks were the topic changes through out. no real way to snip and cut up the conversation to each specific forum. folks are not robots!

My opinion...

Initially, TBN was a compact tractor site and the owning/operating forum dealt mostly with compacts such as the 670, 790, x55 series, etc.
Then, a number of true Ag tractor questions started being posted. Most CUT owners don't know much (or care much) about Ag tractors...hence the relatively recent ( a year of so back) addition of other Deere forums.

As the really old timers (Bird Senter, for example) know, this was originally a site dedicated to Kubota tractors. Back then (1998 or 99), Kubota didn't import any large tractor to the best of my knowledge.
