Massey 4243
I have a 175 acre farm harvesting hay and mow with a new idea 5209 disc mower conditioner. And bale with a new idea 4845 4x5 round baler. Some of the terrain is steep and my Massey 4243 doesn't like it. It bogs it down pretty bad. Looking for something heavy and 4wd to handle the terrain. All input is greatly appreciated.

i would get at least 75 pto horsepower. a john deere 5 series or mccormick cx with 4 wheel drive would handle it.the mccormick would be heavier.

Get JD5093E or JD5101E. Problem solved. Next.

For what he wants to do I think they are perfect. He can go with JD M series or NH T5000 line, like T5070 or something similar with 2000lb more weight to pull.

yeah i think either one, JD or Nh in those series would work better, just by what he is saying needing something heavier, that is why i made that comment. of course we could go out there and the terrain could be not so bad and then something else could work too

Take a look at Mahindra's tractor--the 8560 is a nice 4WD tractor (83hp engine, 70 hp pto).

My haying tractor is a 2008 Mahindra 5525 (54 hp engine, 45 hp pto, 2WD, gear tranny 8F/2R). A heavy, solid tractor with sheet metal (no plastic).

Good luck.

So, in short:

-Identify your best, closest mainline Green, Blue, Red, and other Red dealers and begin there.

-Find the heaviest FWA models in your HP range (I'm saying 80-100 PTO) that those dealers and lines offer for the money you want to spend. Choices really start to narrow.

-Get down to a couple or three models and sit them, ride them, cuss and discuss 'em.

-Flip a coin and be done with it.

I like the Mahindras and their my fav' pet tractor at the moment. I don't mention solely because they may well not have an established dealer close by. If they do, by all means, throw them into the mix. As for Big Orange, I like them just fine and they are quality, but they in general will not weigh as much when compared to other models of the same HP or dimensions from other makes. Not always, but in general, so they may not be what you're looking for.

I am a bit surprised that your 4243, in terms of weight and grunt, isn't doing the job you're wanting. Local semi-retired farmer drags a 9' cutter and a 5x5 baler around some old terraced, hilly, orchard fields with a 50-60HP/ish Zetor without a whimper. How steep are your fields and what are you feeding through the equipment?

if you have just one tractor i would get a john deere.a 75 horse 4x4 5 series with cast iron wheels and power reverser.that tractor is heavy enough.the parts back up is second to none. i get 99% of my parts either in stock or delivered the next day.the nh dealer i traded with had to order everything ups 3 days minimum with a shipping charge.when you have good hay on the ground 3 days is an eternity .look around at auctions there are a lot of john deere and caseih tractors with 15000 hrs on them i never have seen a nh with that many hrs.a ford 5000 to 7710 can be found with high hours but they were built before fiat took over. those tractors are not being made by nh anymore.i think the nh tractors this size are being made by fiat in various countrys.i have a mahindra ,i would not put it in the same class as jd mccormick or kubota.
