Oil is cheap, Kawaski engines not so. Once a year or at 50 hours.. whichever comes first.

The factory has no real good idea what conditions you run your engine, so go on your own. Have fun..

I have an X300 and change my oil and a quality oil filter at the end of the mowing season, about 50-60 hours of mowing time. Also, I change the oil when the engine is hot. As soon as I kill the engine, I drain the oil. It drains faster and cleaner, contaminants are still in solution and don't have time to settle in the crankcase.

I downloaded the service manual for the FD440V and it shows every 100 hrs, which is the same as just about every other Kawasaki engine.

I think changing the oil at 100 hours is fine, but remember if your mower sits all winter long then what ever contaminants are in the oil are going to settle in the crankcase. As the years go by that turns to sludge. I like knowing that there is clean oil in my mower as it sits all winter.

The OP was asking for the "factory recommended" oil change interval. On my X500 with a Kawasaki FS730V I use dino oil and change the oil and filter every 25 hours. I typically put 50 hrs per season on the engine, mostly mowing, and I figure two oil changes a year is not excessive for a 2-cylinder air cooled engine.
