What is this hose?

I'm new to the tractor scene, and recently bought a Yanmar 2000. I was running it today and noticed this hose just hanging down. What is it and is it supposed to just be hanging or connected to something. Sorry for my ignorance...still learning.

Congrats on your new purchase and do not hesitate to ask as many questions as you want. There are many helpful people on this forum. It is the blow-by hose that ventilates the crankcase. It is suppose to just hang there. It should not leak. However, if you touch the end of the hose, you should get black oily soot on your finger. This is normal.

Marky is right. Its the blow by or crank case vent tube to get rid of build up pressure and gases when the rings are bad and exhaust gasses get blown into the case.

Just tuck it behind those two hard metal hydraulic lines and let it run along side of the block.

thats a YM2000? is that a dipstick there on the block, seen just over that big hard line and your hand? Is that an oil fill hole on the upper right side of the pic with a yellow cap? This is oposite of most of the ym2000s and mine. My fill and dip stick are one and located on the other side of the tractor in a similar spot to that black round ring handle thing that i think is a dip stick.

Maybe this is an early model? Do you have a side air clearner on the other side?

Careys looks like mine as well. i never noticed an indention for the dipstick there and the block off plate as well on our models Carey.

KWH1, what's the engine version shown on the tag over on the opposite side?

The later series YM2000 engines have the oil fill on the starter side.

Was hoping to see a reply. The Cap or the Cover has to be for viewing the Cam Shaft IMO.. Hoye shows the Cap on the Gear Case. No label just calls it a Cap and Part#.
