Hi there,

Just bought a 1994 5400 and saw this electrical plug at the bottom of the seat on the floorboards. Any idea what this is for?

Since you found it under the seat, two things come to mind; engine cut-off, PTO cut-off. If you don't have an electric PTO, scratch that one. But if the engine doesn't shut off when you get off the seat, it probably used to be hooked up to a switch in the bottom seat cushion

If you look at JDparts wiring harness rear, it would appear that it is for a seat switch. If your seat switch operates as mine does, if you have the PTO in use and get off the seat does an alarm sound. Just a guess, if your tractor does not have a JD seat on it, most likely the replacement seat did not have a seat switch.

I would suggest you tape up the plug to keep water out of it.

:welcome:
Being three wire, likely not the seat height safety switch (#15 in attachment).
And if disabled, likely would see a jumper across two blades to complete a circuit so the tractor would start.

Looks like it might go to a pressure or temp sensor in the tranny (item #14 )

Beenthere it looks like #item 14 is a NEUTRAL START SWITCH RE39116 from looking at JD parts?

Which is the same number as item #24.

Looks more like the plug for #13 to me. Both 14 and 24 are 2 wire plugs. #13 appears to be a 3 wire plug.

That could be. Cannot tell 2 wire from 3 wire in the jdparts pic.
OP should do some voltage testing to see what might be showing up, as well as search for the connector mate that must be close by.

The PTO lever on the 5X00 is on the left side of the driver痴 seat. The picture is on the right, that is why I think it might not be for the PTO. If it is not one the neutral switchs and not jumped, most likely it would not start. Since it is not jumped and as already mentioned, while the tractor would start, the PTO alarm would be going off, if it was for the seat and not jumped.

This could be something that was added on for maybe a monitor for round baler or a diverter or ?

Found this picture it may give a new thought.

Satchman would you have time to trace this wire back?

If you pull the covering back there will be writing on the insulation. It will be like 374purple or something like that. With the wiring diagram you will know for sure.

OK, so I just looked at the wires. There is a yellow one with the markings of 574C and a brown one with hard to read writing. I think it is 921. There are only 2 wires coming out of the plug. Thanks for all of the help you guys have been providing!

The attached document was taken from the 5X10 tech. manual. The wires are for the seat switch.
