WHAT IS THIS ??? Trying to unscrew end of hydraulic cylinder .

So there is a piece of metal that sticks out of hole when I try to unscrew cap and stops it. I dont want to break anything so anyone seen this style ? This on a T5c backhoe hydraulic cylinder,

Its called a square wire. It locks it in place
