I found a handful of these and I can't figure out what they are. They are fairly well made. There is a little "plunger" out of the top and 3 cam like devices in the center. It is about 3 inches over-all length.

It is used to fasten two ends of rope together for an old fashion clothesline that uses a pulley wheel. This gizmo made it easy to adjust the tension.

Must be a Youngster!!!!! Those are devices that attach to the outside clothes line and hold the tension to keep the line from sagging..... not much need for them now days that we have automatic dryers...... I tried to buy a clothes line last spring and all I could find was the cheap undersized line (rope) in the big box store. The local hardware store didn't have much of a selection either.... Just made the old one a little bit shorter.... Wife prefers to hang clothes and sheets than put them in the dryer..... Doesn't matter to me, as long as I don't have to do it...... If I did, the dryer would be my choice...

Yup, my wife's the same way. Until mowing day when she put them out and one of her favorite blouses blew off the line right in front of the mower! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Of course, I couldn't get stopped fast enough. I bet it took me at least 4 tries to hit that brake pedal! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Yep we have those adjusters on our clothes lines. My wife refuses to own a dryer. Just like her mom!! Never had one never will. Really unusual for my generation. The wife hangs clothes outside year round unless the weather is wet and then the clothes get hung on the basement lines that I have hanging for her. Try putting on a frozen pair of FTL's early in the morning! That will wake you up real quick!

Plano and Frisco Texas have ordinances against clotheslines. But folks will be folks. I've sold and installed more than one solar drier without a problem though. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well I'll be 50 real soon Junkman but thanks for the thought! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Thanks to all for the info. I don't plan to put up a new clothesline but they might come in handy for something else.

And I'll soon be 64 and I've never seen any of those. I guess we just weren't rich enough to have a gin-u-wine "clothes line"; thought you just strung a piece of wire between two posts. And I sure hated the job of hanging the clothes out when it was cold outside, too.

Pretty well describes my clothesline days as well, Bird. Matter of fact we had cedar post braces installed at 45 degrees inside of each end post so the line wouldn't sag so much that the wet towels would drag the ground!

They are still sold at /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif(Wal-Mart) /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif in the hardware dept. by the rope and chain.
