What is this?

This seems to be harming a couple of trees.

Looks like eastern tent caterpillar

I thought tent caterpillars didn't harm trees. But I could certainly be wrong. Thinking I'll lop off and burn?

Tent caterpillars typically do not kill the tree, but will leave the veins in the leaf. That will leave the dead lace appearance to the branch along with the web.
I either break the web and use insecticide or burn the branch

Many years ago in Mass we had a bad infestation of tent catepillars across the state. They stripped the leaves from all of the trees. The trees survived - but it looked like late fall, before the snow. You went outside and could hear the crunching. There were droppings and caterpillars everywhere.
