Good Day All:

My first post since joining so go easy on me please.

First off how do I download pics?

Second, I bought a flail mower used from a guy who didn't need it. Turned out to be too short so he sold it to me for what he got it at auction .
Looks to be fairly new. Five feet long, same colour as john deere but the cover over the shaft from the belt to the gear box is painted a sunshine yellow colour.
No markings with y knives, four per line with five rows around the drum.
I'll post pics as soon as I find out how.

Thanks for your help.

Kind regards,

Carpediem

Welcome to the forum!

To post a pic, do the following:
1) do a reply to your original post.
2) then click on "go advanced", which is just beneath the body of your text message.
3) then, beneath the text body again, you will see "manage attachments", click on that.
4) you will see a dialogue box open up, click on "add files".
5) browse folders until you get to your picture, select it and hit "enter".
6) when your pic shows up in the dialogue box, you will have to select it, and then click "insert online" or you can drag it to the bottom half of the dialogue box.

Before you click on insert online, make sure your cursor is where you want the pic to be at, in the body of your text message. I always do a "preview post" before submitting it. That way you can check to see how it will appear, before you post it.

I want to welcome you as the newest member of the "Flail Mower Nations"

Now a couple of things.

John Deere flails came in green and yellow both

It sounds like a Mott with green paint job

Does it have a round gearbox or a square gearbox??

Is the cross shaft from the gearbox to the driven pulley belt guard
covered with a sheet metal guard.

Is there a rubber trash flap attached to the rear of the mower?

You may have a flail mower with a trash door that can be removed to allow it to
operate in tall brush.

First: the "drum" is referred to as a Flail Mower Rotor.

Second: the Y blades are referred to as "side slicers".

Third: the knive mounts are referred to as "mounting stations" with X number PER row

Fourth: are you sure the flail mower does not have air paddles to help lift the clippings up
and over the flail mower rotor?

Fifth: The ID tag should be at the left or right corner in front on the lower weldment OR at the
left or right side rear of the flail mower shroud OR under the V belt guard.

Sixth: The flail mower drum is also a "high speed balanced pulley".

Flail mowers mounted on high speed welded pulleys have three to four rows
of flail mower knives due to the needed balance requirements of the pulley
geometry with welded blade mounting stations at the 12, 3, 6, or 9 oclock positions (each 90 degree compass location)
OR the 12, 4 or 8 o'clock positions (each 120 degree compass location) with weights welded on the rotors to balance them at the speed of -2000-2200 RPM.

Waiting for pictures.

I don't use Manage Attachments. Start this time by clicking "Reply To Thread" at the top left of this page, type your message. Put the cursor where you want the pictures to be and click the "Picture Icon" (looks like a picture frame with a big tree) that brings up the uploader. Then click "Choose Files", select the ones you want from your computer and click "Upload Files".

After they upload, you can put a space between them to make it easier to see them.

Hey Kebo:

Thanks for the information.

I am currently at work and won't be out until Thursday. Will be heading to the country Friday and will check my beloved flail mower and post all relevant information.

Kind regards,
