What kind of grass is this and how do I get rid of it ?

I have grass like yours - we just call it field grass. Ranchers bale it for winter cow feed. I've tried everything available to me - burn, plow, roundup - to get rid of it but after all is said and done - its the grass that comes back and fills the voided area. I've mowed it with my riding mower but it eventually burned up the drive belt so I've not done that again.

I've just learned to live with it.

The more I read the more discouraged I get about this stuff. I have so much to do it has been a real low priority. The problem is now I am very concerned about it taking over the entire food plot. I started with one patch now I have 2 . I will move it up on the priority list now and start with working with small areas of it to see if I can find an effective method.
I think plowing would eventually be the way to go. But would be the most difficult to execute.

The grass is growing on a high an dry area , however , I have to literally cross a swamp to get to it so it has to be very dry for access with my tractor. I am going to try and cut some lanes and small areas with my Field and Brush mower and try heavy herbicide on cut lanes.

I had a patch of "tree of heaven", Three times a year for 5 years spraying any sapling I saw spout up. Been free from it for 3 years now.

Don't let it get a foot hold for more than a month or so, just keep going back quarterly and hit anything that didn't die with another shot of roundup. As strange as this may sound, soaking the plant with roundup is NOT what you want to do. A good light coat and it should take 10-14 days to start to see results. If you hit it too hard the plant will die before it lets the chemical get to the end of all the fine rootlets.
