Tiller What kind of moldboard plow was this??

First off, I don't have a pic and probably won't stop to get one either. There is a two bottom plow sitting in a yard on the way to & from work. This plow is different from most two bottom plows. I have seen dozens and dozens of pictures of plows (and many in person of course) but have never seen one like this one before.

What's different is the moldboard itself is slotted, or has about three louvers that are vertical, which I guess will let some dirt pass through the moldboard itself. In other words, take a standard moldboard and cut four 3" wide strips out of it so that you have three vertical strips left in it. That's the best I can describe it without stopping and asking to take a picture!

So, what is the purpose of the slots?? Is this a standard moldboard that can be bought, or perhaps an owner of this plow took a torch to it and just started cutting away for some reason?????

This is a conservation tillage plow share
and it plows deep with good suck and
with little effort as the actual plowshare is
small in its actual size.

The small surface area allows low drag and the
3 part wing allows easier turning of the dirt in
the furrow.

Sorry "whoopsie" I forgot that they were called slat moldboards.

If you buy anything buy the Weise mini modlboards to replace the OEM plow

They're called "slat moldboard" plows, they were supposed to pull easier, due to less friction. I've been told they wouldn't work well in all soil types. Dad tried to buy a new one in the 50's & was told by the JD dealer that they didn't work well in our area (north MO). ~~ grnspot

Yep, that be it!!! I googled "slat moldboard plow" and here's a pic of one I came across:

That gray one looks similar to the one I'm referring to, but it's red. Of course, it could have been painted over.

The reason I ask is that this plow, and an older model Ford tractor, were both parked out in front and up for sale a few weeks ago. Apparently the tractor was sold, since I haven't seen it in several weeks. The plow was parked over to the edge of the yard, but it doesn't have a "for sale" sign on it now.

Do you all think it might be a good match for my 790 with R4 tires?? I've been wanting a bottom plow for sometime now. It might be possible to get this plow for a good price now, since the tractor appears to be gone. What good is a plow with no tractor, right?

You could always remove one moldboard and use it that way for sure. You can always get parts from a Weise plow parts retailer.

Its easily worth $300.00 U.S.D.

Hmmm, it's really got me thinking now..... might have to stop and knock. If I do, I'll see if I can get a picture or three of the plow.

Before you make a offer, be sure you can get replacement parts. Most of that is obsolete. Ken Sweet

Yep, if it's in as good of condition as the photo, it's well worth $300. If something were to break, you always could replace the "frog" to something newer and more common, and then use whatever board, share, etc were available.
