Ok so this is a slightly off topic but here I go. I recently had my lawn hydro seeded and on the way down my steep drive the seeder leaked some sort of oil on my driveway. I've been meaning to get to it but I figured a few rains an it would be gone. Well yesterday I drove my atv on the area the oil spilled and the treads of the tire left marks. So I looked more closely at the area and the oil seems to have softened the asphalt. What can I try to clean this area up an stop any more damage. It doesn't look like speedy dry would help since it's already dried. I've heard of using dawn dish soap, I was also going to try simple green. So can someone point me in the right direction?

Could have been diesel maybe? I think that would soften hot top.

The seeder would probably only carry hydraulic oil or diesel fuel. If it was diesel fuel you would probably recognize the smell immediately.

I would go with the Dawn dish soap it should neutralize whatever it is..we use it all the time but I would not wait...squirt it on liberally and work it in real good with a broom and then after it sits for awhile...rinse it off with the hose and a broom...

I would go with calling the company that leaked it and damaged your driveway. Let them figure it out.

pretty much don't matter if it is oil or diesl.. both will soften the asphalt. Might salvage it with a soap wash.. likely it would have helped as soon as you did it.

after the wash and rince, you may find it erodes a bit. you can try a tar patch and then sprinkle sand on it.. couple thin coats and let it setup... would look oem.. but usually won't scab either.... or you could cut it out with a concrete saw and them tamp a few bags of cold patch in it. that won't scab either.. just try to match the height good.

if you merely put cold patch on it and tamp in, it will scab for sure..
