OK Mark. I’m dying to know. After reading about endless modifications to Kubota’s, Earth Force’s, and 7-11 coffee cups, what truck do you run?

I will go ahead and state, for the record, that I think it’s something with a Cummins I-6 engine, as you would naturally appreciate the perfect harmonic balance of the I-6 engine over a V-8, and the endless modifications available for this engine family. Anyway, let’s have it. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

My guess would be for a HumVee, but since these are pretty filmsy to start out with by MChalkey standards, He probably would have added around 50,000 lbs of 3/8" plate steel armor to the body, and then perhaps shoehorned in a 12 cylinder 1000 HP Cat diesel to get some real power under the hood. Then perhaps replaced those smallish tires with some 18.4 x 34 ags all the way around. Then he probably put about 18 individual 2.5 million candlepower lights all around it, just in case the sun never again came up. And last but not least comes the flux capacitor.

My convoluted thinking is, since the Earth Force is a Czech built machine, He probably has a surplus Soviet tank,/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif that is "highly" modified. Roads, we don't need no stinking roads/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif! The gun barrel has been turned into a boom with a winch for ease of loading equipment. The flame thrower makes great auxillary lighting, but is heck on the shrubbery. And last but not least, there is plenty of steel for the magnets on the Chalkley cup!/w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

Mark posted info about his truck some time ago. Early Ram with Turbo Cummins, manual tranny, and a bunch of hi-perf stuff on the motor.

I would love to see it up close, to hear it run and see the actual mods... Man those Cummins can be pumped up!

A friend was in getting a service on his HumVee a couple months ago. There was a guy that bought a brand new HumVee and a brand new Duramax pickup. He had the engine ripped out of the HumVee and the Chevy truck, and had the Duramax dropped into the HumVee. Dick didn't get to see it run; the shop was almost ready, but, well almost ready to fire it up. We both agrred the guy had too much money....

I knew it! I did a search before posting my original note and didn’t find any info on his truck.

Anyway, you said “early ram.” I bet he’s traded. Early Ram means 16v, not 24v. Not sure that 24v motor could be resisted. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

BTW, if there’s anything more likely to start a flame war than tractor talk, it’s truck talk. Let’s try to avoid that if possible. I figure Mark’s truck is likely to be so highly modified that it can’t legitimately be identified by a specific brand anymore anyway. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Marrt - RobertN supplied you with the correct info. I've got a '93 Dodge W250 (4x4) Club Cab with Cummins engine and 3.07 (no, that's not a typo) gears. In fact, the dealer said when I got it that it was either the last or the next to last of the old body style ever made, which happened because I told him I wanted to order it on the last day possible before they switched to the new body style (not because I don't like the new body style, but because the new one wasn't available in a Club Cab model the first year). As for modifications, it's got a heavily re-calibrated injection pump, double-size intercooler, wastegated turbo limited to 32 pounds of boost, higher-performance injectors, pre/post-luber, straight 3 1/2" pipe exhaust, exhaust brake, custom driveshafts and universal joints (cause I kept wringing 'em off...), a custom Sachs-based pressure plate with 75% greater holding force, a custom ceramic-puck clutch disk, and a retro-fitted New Venture 6-speed manual transmission. I think that's about it. It's in pretty rough shape body-wise, though, so it's soon getting a complete body job, top and bottom-side strip, undercoating, spray-in bedliner, and a paint job, as well as some sound proofing underneath, so I don't have to wear the Pro-Ears when I'm driving it. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I had it dyno'ed once, but it was before I put the higher performance injectors, clutch, straight exhaust and 6-speed in it, and also before I moved the maximum boost from 22 to 32 pounds. I got 235hp out of it, and almost 800 foot-pounds of torque at the rear wheels, before we had to quit because the clutch started slipping, then we blew a rear tire... A Centerforce clutch rated at 1000 ft-lbs didn't even come close to holding it, but the clutch may have been defective - it certainly was pretty well shot after the Cummins got through with it. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif The current custom clutch is holding perfectly, but it's pretty tough trying to back up gently, because it's a bit grabby...

The 24v engine is tempting, but I've got to wear out or break the one I've got first. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

mark

Did that need any engine mods to acheive?

Or does it just take years of life off the engine??

Cheers

That sounds like quite a truck Mark. I bet that thing could tow quite a bit. One question, why a 3 1/2" exhaust? Most aftermarket exhaust systems I have seen for diesels are 4" and larger (some even 6"). Is there something inherently better about the 3 1/2" for the cummins? Most of the aftermarket research I have done has been for the Fords, and the general consensus is that there is no such thing as too big, although there is certainly a point where it makes no difference to go larger.
