What makes rows

I bought a used 2 row Cultivater. I want to make it into a 1 row cultivator and make rows as wide as I like. What do I need to do this? I was looking at the Agri-Supply disc hiller attachments and I came home with a set of buzzard wing hillers. Will this make rows?

A row is nothing more then a "V" indent in prepared ground.. you could use a garden hoe.. or one cultivator tine to make those.. most planters make their own. The disk hillers will make a raised bed row.. I used raised beds for tomatoes, peppers, squash, cucumbers,(most vine plants) then make bigger raised beds to plant potatoes.

Here is a picture of my disc hillers on my JD 4010 I used to maked raised rows between the wheel treads.

Just planted my potatoes in some of the rows today.

Get a set of one row hillers they are cheap around $250 to $350.

If a 2 row cultivator looks like a 1 row just remove some of shanks and put them how wide you need.

I got a 1 row cult last year and since the garden was getting pretty tall I only used two outside shanks.

Ralph, can you send another pic of your setup? Looks like you have what I've been looking for. Where did you get it, ect. I'd like to see a pic of what your rows look like also. I looked at some of the disc hillers at agri-supply, but came home with a set of buzzard wing points. They look like they would mound up a hill, but they do not turn like the disc. I'm also having a hard time finding a toolbar like yours.

There are a few tool bars, usually sold with disc hillers or chisel plow cultivators bolted on. One source is this one (this will be the disc hillers, but go to the home site to see the bars): http://www.buctraco.com/disks.htm. Agri Supply also has them. Their disc hillers (without the bar) are half the price of the Ohio outfit or an outfit my JD dealer had for them. The Agri Supply disc hillers are made in India. All the current tool bars are carried "square". Mine is carried in diamond formation, with one angle down. Makes it more difficult to come up with clamps for the diamond, but they may hold better.

I got my tool bar with 7 chisel plows from a friend who was no longer using it. He works in a machine shop and converted it to 3 pt using a design of mine and materials I bought at TSC. He also designed and built the clamps for the shanks of the disc hillers. He used the "soil ripper" (with the chisel plows) on his old JD M, which is an 18 hp gas 2 cylinder vertical engined JD. My 4010 pulls both the 7 chisel plows and 2 16" disc hillers set at 45 degree angles fine. It would NOT be able to pull the 2 16" discs set at the same 45 degree angle, because they'd kick it sideways. The tractor is too light, only 1400 #.

The raised rows are essentially the same height, etc. as what I got with my Gravely rotary plow. However, they're much more uniform. It got 20 rows where I had only 14 with the Gravely plow.
