Mowing What Model JD Bush Hog Is This?

I just bought the JD rotary cutter (bush hog) shown in the attached pics. I can't find a model or serial number on it. It has a 60" cut and two flail blades. Can anyone tell me what model and year it is -- or at least come close? I'd like to get the operating manual and a chain guard for it.

It looks like a 503 rotary cutter. Parts catalog does not show a complete chain guard for it. You can buy the bracket aw26362 and the 51 individual pieces of 5- 1/4" link chains. #w10443

JD110 - Just the lead I needed. I did a Google search on that model and found several others pictured. Thanks for the heads-up on the chain guard too. This seems like a pretty decent unit for $400. Needs a new wheel and a better PTO, other than that it's in very good shape.

I would agree that the design looks like the 503 my dad has (due to the enclosed rear design)..

BUT do those welds look like a JD product though? Its not as 'clean' looking as I remember..

The model 503 was weak along that lower edge, it was pretty easy to bend it by backing it into something. Looks like someone added extra bracing to the lower edge of your 503 bush hog. It looks pretty decent for $400 though, good luck with it!

Yes, this 503 has had some extra plating welded to the lower edge. Probably by the first farmer who used it. When was the 503 in production?

Yep thats a 503. I just bought one on CL for $250 with the PTO shaft.
Great littler brush hog. Mine did have some rear end damage (pretty week) which we had to weld up. Have fun with it!
